Fauquier Babe Ruth Baseball - Letter from the President
by posted 03/11/2009

Dear Parents,

Fauquier Babe Ruth is excited about the upcoming season and once again we look forward to a productive and positive season. Every year we can’t wait to start playing the great game of baseball and teaching the youth in our community about teamwork and the many life skills that come from youth sports. Thanks to each of you in advance for the assistance you give and the support that is so often received by our leagues. This year is no different in the need for support, however, the type of support we need at this time is quite different.

As you probably know by now, this spring season we have not been given the same number of fields that have been given to FBR in the past. Our numbers are relatively the same but we have had a significant drop in our allocation from the county and this is especially true in the central and eastern region. The facts are that for the central region, Warrenton area, we have three fields of which one is a 90’ diamond which is set up only for the 13 year old and older division. In the Eastern region we have been allocated one T-ball field and have shared use on PB Smith. We have approximately 48% of our registrations with a Warrenton address. This equates to over 300 kids from the central or another way to look at this is, enough kids to make up over 25 teams.

For more years than I can remember, we have had Taylor MS field as the home base for our Rookie Division and played there 6 days a week. This spring we lost this field and I would like to explain what this loss has done to the scheduling of fields. Because of Taylor, we have had to move the Rookie Division fields typically used by Minors and Majors because they cannot play on certain fields, such as the Marshall T-ball field due to the size. That paired with the fact that we have 18 T-ball teams this spring which has required us to move T-ball teams onto some remaining Rookie fields, and we find our- selves in the situation that we currently are facing. Some examples of this effect are 14 teams practicing in the Marshall area and 9 teams practicing at Mary Walters. There is nothing wrong with these fields, however due to the lack of space in the central and eastern areas; the domino effect has forced many teams to travel outside of their areas.

We have exactly followed the new county procedures for field allocations. We have not been given a reason as to why, after years of allocating Taylor to FBR, it is no longer allocated for our use. We also have not been given an answer as to why our level of allocation is so out of proportion to other leagues with similar and even less numbers than ours. We have appealed the decision to Parks and Recreation and they have denied our appeal. We have followed up with a request for a secondary evaluation which has also been denied. We simply have been told that the decisions are final but we have not been given an explanation as to why. This is where I need your help and support.

I would like for you to contact the director of Parks and Recreation and respectfully ask why Fauquier Babe Ruth has had Taylor taken out of our allocation and given to other sports. I would also ask that you contact your Park Board member and ask the same question, because as it stands currently, within a few hours of the practice schedules being distributed, the refund requests are rolling in due to parents simply not being able to make it in time to where they are scheduled.  This is not good for the overall operations of the leagues.  The contact information is listed below:

Sincerely,

FBR News - Another Great Loss - Rex "Pop" Lewis
by posted 02/09/2009

All Fauquier Babe Ruth Members,

We have lost another coach that was very near and dear to our hearts. He was with the Morrisville organizations then went to the CCC organization until we all merged into Fauquier Babe Ruth. He helped out in any way he could and his biggest joy was to come out and watch everyone play baseball. He was one of those that were there for each and every child. If you played baseball you were his grandchild.

What a great loss.
